Friends ii

So, here's the largest version of "Friends". I also have a small 6 x 8-inch painting of the same scene. They are similar, but this larger one is actually freer, or maybe I felt freer as I painted it. At one point, it was not going well. So, I took a deep breath, prayed to God, and also 'asked' the painting what it needed me to do to. That is a little embarrassing to mention...I don't like to say that I talk to my paintings, but, who knew? It worked! I finished it in nearly one sitting which is unusual for me. With larger paintings it usually takes several sessions at the canvas because of the physical energy expended. Most may think that a painter's life is easy...that painting every day is so ideallic and relaxing. Well, actually, it's not. It is a lot of hard work and the creative juices are not always flowing, so you have to make them flow. The good feelings that come with painting is the knowledge of work well done. That I have put in my time that day...and I'm even more proud because I don't have a boss looking over my shoulder telling me what to do. That is actually easier, in my opinion. But I'd still much rather be my own boss anyday.
